How Artists Are Scored
The Winery Music Awards is a point-scoring competition whereby each performing artist earns points. A panel of judges assigns points in the following three categories:

  • Originality
  • Musicianship
  • Marketability to the wine-consuming market - men and women aged 21-54

Originality and Musicianship each can earn up to 30 points. Marketability is worth 40 points. The highest total score possible for an artist to earn is 100 points.

Four Elimination Round competitions on four different dates this summer showcase a total of 20 artists, with the highest total point-earning artists at each competition proceeding to October Final Competition.

Artists who move on to the Final Competition must perform at least one song different from their Elimination Round performance. Judging for the Final Competition will be started from scratch; in other words, the artist’s score from their Elimination Round does not count towards their score in the Final Competition.

At the end of the Final Competition the point totals for First, Second, and Third-place finishers will be announced. In addition, the performances that scored highest in each of the three sub-categories—Originality, Musicianship, and Marketability—will also be announced and recognized with Award Certificates.

In addition, the judges’ consensus for Best Song of the Final competition will be announced at the conclusion of the show.
