About the Winery Music Awards

The nation's most unique music competition among independent artists returns in 2008. Held in bucolic outdoor settings, and based in the the heart of California's scenic Central Coast wine region, Paso Robles, the Winery Music Awards competition showcases unsigned artists of original music in the US and Canada. While attendees enjoy the music they also can visit a variety of tented kiosks on the grounds and sample many of the area's best wines and gourmet food or purchase the work of some of California's best original artists and craftspeople.

The indie musical artists compete for significant prizes contributed by a variety of sponsor companies within and outside the music industry. What's more, they have the opportunity to perform their work for a host of notable judges influential in the music, entertainment and wine industries. The panel scores artists on a 100-point scale in the categories of Originality, Musicianship and Marketability to men and women aged 25-54, a prime wine-consuming market. The competition is open to the musical genres of rock, blues, alternative, jazz, acoustic, country, folk, reggae' and adult contemporary.

Notable names in the music industry who judged the 2007 competition include Jon Anderson, of the legendary rock group, YES, Antonia Bennett, jazz singer and daughter of the great Tony Bennett, Jake Hooker, who wrote the classic hit "I Love Rock 'N Roll" and John Braheny, author of the songwriter's bible, "The Craft and Business of Songwriting."

The 2008 Winery Music Awards concert competitions will be held at the River Oaks Hot Springs and Spa in Paso Robles. Two days of semi final concerts will take place on the Saturday and Sunday of Labor Day weekend (August 30 & 31) with the final concert competition on the Sunday of Columbus Day weekend, October 12 .

From hundreds of submissions received during the qualification period, only ten artists will be selected by a committee of industry professionals. These 10 semi-finalists will be invited to perform at one of the semifinal competition concerts--five artists in each concert. The two highest scoring artists in each of the two semifinal concerts advance to the final competition in October, along with one wild card winner. The wild card winner is the highest scoring artist other than the winners of the semifinal concerts. Therefore, five artists compete for all the prizes to be awarded in the final competition concert in October

Founded and produced by Kathy Kelly Productions, Inc., the Winery Music Awards was created out of the growing popularity of quality musical performances at many wineries throughout California. It's not a showcase of wine country music--it's a wine country showcase of today's best independent music, each concert competition being a four-hour celebration of music and originality. The competition is open only to independent music artists who are not under contract or signed agreement with a major record label or other professional music recording entity at the time of submitting an entry and at the time of their performance in any concert competition.
